Jayms Madison Interview By Marquis Hitz

Thernbroom - Hey Jayms, how are you doing?

Jayms Madison - I am doing good Marquis, how are you honey?

Thernbroom - I’m great! So let’s get started. You have built quite a buzz over the Internet, how do you feel about the way the music industry is going today, and where the Internet is taking it?

Jayms Madison - I think it’s all so fabulous. I love the technology we have access to; it’s so exciting seeing where it can take music! It’s been a while since we had a sound that was accepted so widely! Everything now can appeal to the pop market, and that means more sales for everyone, and regardless of who you believe is talented or not you’ve got to admit, it takes talent to orchestrate a lot of the tech music were hearing on the radio lately. I love the internet; it connects me to my fans in a way I could never imagine! I love being able to speak with people from all across the globe, not to mention genius websites like concrete loop and all hip hop that give people a first listen to new and upcoming music, its all brilliant!

Thernbroom - Did you write, or co-write your new single Room Service?

Jayms Madison - Yes I did, with some help from my talented friends Teron and Brandon Beal, and Lil' Eddie. It was my first challenge in the studio.

Thernbroom - Where did the idea come from for the song, and how do you feel about the attention that you are receiving from it?

Jayms Madison - Well, we were all having a case of writers block and decided to just take a break and discuss what plans we had for the weekend, when Brandon mentioned a club called Room Service that he wanted to check out, and that when I said "a ha!", and the song just took on a life of its own from that point. I really love the attention the song has been getting, its surreal; I know that sounds so cliché, but it was really unexpected.

Thernbroom - You are being compared at this point to Cassie because of the single. Such things are being said like: “she can’t sing,” or, “she sounds just like Cassie,” or “she will only make it because she's beautiful,” how are your feelings towards that situation, and what do you say to all of the bloggers and disbelievers out there giving you this type of comparison?

Jayms Madison - Well as far as the negative comments, I don’t really read those. I pretty much believe that everyone is entitled to their opinion, and at the end of the day I’ve already accepted I can’t please everyone, so obviously I didn’t make my music for the people who don’t like it. All I can say to the folks is, I’m far more than a pretty face, and if you standby, you’ll see.

Thernbroom - I listened to the single, “I Need Help”, is this from a personal experience, and if so, how did you overcome the heartbreak?

Jayms Madison - Well, I’ve always been very observant, and a good listener, so I take from my experiences and others around me and I write relatable records about things that may not be that comfortable to speak about much less sing about, but that happen.

Thernbroom - How did you know that music would be your passion, the one thing that you wanted to do for the rest of your life? How long have you been singing for, and what would you say to all of those up-and-coming artists out there trying to make it in the music industry?

Jayms Madison - I’ve been singing since I was 5, and I knew I wanted to do music the moment someone told me, “you know you could get paid for that? Since you do it all the time anyway" (LOL). It was like I had never even thought of it. I decided that day I would never do anything else. The best advice I can give any upcoming artist is hone your craft 24/7! Make your craft a part of your daily life, glue yourself to the radio and listen to the song that plays the most, figure out why people like that song so much, then make sure your song has that element, and you cant go wrong.

Thernbroom - Who were some of your inspirations and idols that you looked up to in music growing up, and as for your peers in the industry, who today do you give accolades to for what they have done, and the doors they have opened for you to be able to give the world your talent?

Jayms Madison - I was introduced to music by my Grandmother by way of her sending me Disney tapes in Jamaica, and my Mother by way of her singing me awake in the morning to Prince and The Emotions, and my Dad by way of sending me Alanis Morisette and Jewel tapes. My family definitely encouraged my music career. I discovered a few influences along the way on my own, such as Lauryn Hill, Brandy, Tina Turner, and Rachelle Farell. I must admit I admire Beyonce's drive, that woman is like a magical diva robot! I have the most respect for her; she is definitely an inspiration to girls and women world wide.

Thernbroom - What do you think that you are bringing to the world of music that is not already there?

Jayms Madison - Uh...Id like to think I’m bringing the blush factor; I make the embarrassing beautiful, and pain honest. I try to relate to the the folks who are ashamed of their flaws and the people who wear them as badges of honor with a "take it or leave it" attitude. I think those are the people who listen to songs like "Overdose" and smirk to themselves at the tone of the lyrics, the lyrics appeal to those folks, where the music appeals to the dance crowd. I can’t say exactly sort of just guessing, but you’ve really just got to ask the people! (LOL)

Thernbroom - As an up-and-coming artist yourself, what do you feel are some of your strengths, and some of your weaknesses?

Jayms Madison – Oh you’re a sly one, but ill never admit to any flaws, then all the haters would be out of a job, silly.

Thernbroom - How do you feel about the election of Barack Obama, and the current recession?

Jayms Madison - I’ve never been more proud of anyone or anything ever. I’m happy for us. We’ve waited a long time for this kind of change to come along and I think he was well worth the wait. He’s the right guy for the job. Now there’s no going back and it’s just an amazing accomplishment. As for the recession, it sucks, but as far as me having any ideas on how to make it better without making something else worse, I have no clue, but I support my president in these difficult times and I know nothing will be fixed over night, and I won’t blame him for damages caused by our previous president.

Thernbroom - When can we expect an album from Jayms Madison?

Jayms Madison - Sooner than later honey, I promise, but a little pressure never hurt, I need all the folks to put pressure on the DJs, radio stations, and websites to play the music and follow what ya girl is up to.

Thernbroom - What are some of your next moves, and do you plan on doing more shows soon, and if so, where will they be?

Jayms Madison - I’m putting together my show as we speak! It’s far too much to talk about but, between the music, the dancers, and the costumes, I’m pouring my self into it, and I really think the folks will love it!

Thernbroom - Are you close with your grandparents still, and how do they feel about all of this superstardom your starting to come into?

Jayms Madison - LOL, your sweet, uh...they don’t even fully understand any of it, and I think that’s best, they keep my head on my shoulders, and they are 100% supportive.

Thernbroom - For all the guys out there, does Jayms Madison currently have a special someone in her life?

Jayms Madison - Unfortunately, I’m very single, my work ethic kind of kills the mood. Every argument is a song, and every kiss is a metaphor or a concept, and then there’s the issue of insecurity, (the guys of course!).

Thernbroom - How was life in Jamaica, and what was one of your fondest experiences from there?

Jayms Madison - Life was boring, I didn’t live in the Jamaica you guys see in the travel ads, I lived in the Jamaica hood, but my family was very sophisticated and classy, and we made dollars out of cents. My life then, helped mold who I am today, so I won’t complain, and my grandparents instilled a lot of morals and proper manners that help me a lot in this business, they were the best.

Thernbroom - Being 20, do you think that your experiences will inspire females that are around the same age, or do you think that your music will touch young teenage girls, and adult females alike?

Jayms Madison - Well, I would love to imagine it would reach people all across the board, but reality tells me I’ll probably have a better chance with teens and women my age, but you never know.

Thernbroom - How did you come across ByFriday Entertainment/Creative Jenius Agency?

Jayms Madison - Well, ByFriday is an amazing production company I came across while I was getting situated with my publishing company. They’re good friends of mine who gave me guidance through a lot of difficult stages in my career. They helped me hone my skill and put me in some amazing positions to work with people I’d only ever read about, such as Shea Taylor, Kwame, and Needlez, truly wonderful and highly reputable people. As for The Creative Jenius Agency, they are another amazing team, the absolute ultimate agency! You want it, they got it, and they’ll make it happen! That’s basically what they do, they make it all happen! (LOL)

Thernbroom - Not many have gotten the chance to open up for an accomplished artist like Trey Songz, what was that like, and did he give you any advice on the industry and what to expect?

Jayms Madison - It was really fun! I had a good time! We actually spoke briefly but it was an animal house that night so we didn’t really get a chance to talk business. We’ve seen each other since but it’s always just so crazy, but he truly is the sweetest guy.

Thernbroom - Where can anyone who wants to listen to your music go in order to check out what Jayms Madison has to offer?

Jayms Madison - Well, being that I’m the only Jayms Madison, all you really have to do is type my name into any search engine you can think of and click on any of the links you find, and of course on my MySpace page you can listen all day (www.myspace.com/jaymsmadison), I also have video clips on YouTube, DailyMotion, and idk where else, but check me out, and if you ever feel like there’s not enough of me available, when you see me in the street, tell me, and if you happen to have a camcorder with you, make and post your own videos, I’m always game to kick it with the folks!

Thernbroom - In closing, what would you say to everyone that is interested in your music, your fans, that one thing to make everyone remember, now that’s Jayms Madison?

Jayms Madison - I am what you make me, so make me BIGGER, BETTER and BADDER than anything you’ve ever made and I’ll never let you down, I love you all!

On behalf of Thernbroom, we all would like to give a special thanks to Jayms’s management for getting this interview to her, and to Jayms for taking the time to take on this interview, we wish you all the best Jayms!!!
